In the years to come the newspaper business and postal services will come under even more pressure from the internet as the communications industry continues its revolution. It is already important to have a presence on the internet even if it is merely in the social media where friends and family chat informally. While the technology for this communication may change the concept won’t.
The internet has transformed the way that business conducts its affairs; even the famous retail brands with prime city centre locations understand the inevitable. They need a website to promote themselves even if they are actually reluctant to actually sell products direct to the consumer.
The World has changed irrevocably and there is little point resisting the change particularly for the generations in their active working lives who may still aim to change employment a number of times before retirement. The reality is that employers now look at a number of ways of recruiting staff and increasingly the newspaper advertisement in a broad sheet is becoming obsolete.
The smallest detail may find its way on to the internet; anything that gets publicity is likely to be found somewhere. It can be an interesting exercise finding your own name on the internet and where it is mentioned. The vast majority of things of course are completely harmless but it is still much more preferable that if someone does want to research you on the internet that you gather together the details about yourself that you want to promote, purchase a domain name and find a host. While it may not be possible to obtain your exact name as you would like to see it, there should be something close enough so that it cannot be mistaken for anyone else.
It is important to stand out; standard design never excites the viewer and although it is possible to use such as LinkedIn to present yourself, it is so much better to have a link that takes the reader to something a little different. A CV website with a little imagination put into the design and well presented text that highlights the important things about yourself is the answer. It should give anyone looking at the CV an accurate idea of who you are, what you are about and what you have to offer, whether it is to a prospective employer or not. It is the way forward in this ever changing world.
